THE NEWSPAPER: A fun tale
Here I believe everyone of you must have heard about the term or basically a noun called newspaper. But here I am going to treat newspaper as a ''the'' thing, because I strongly believe that newspaper is not just a printed and pictured paper in small and big fonts used alternately, but it is more than that.
GENERAL USE
So let's begin this. Elderly people, mostly the retired one and those who have lost any interest in the chores of their family issues, love the newspaper reading the most. Without having read the newspaper their food won't digest, their digestive enzymes won't function properly, as the newspaper is like a snack to go with their morning tea.
IN INDIA
In India basically, another class of the newspaper reading enthusiast belong to the youth and the fresh talent or I could say the administrative future of the country, and they are called the IAS, PCS, SSC, CGL, DRDO and other equivalent government job aspirants, for them the newspaper is not less than a God and it s the second most important asset for them to get the job because first one could be listening to the news on television or online, as the latter option saves the time and highlighter ink also.
The newspaper is the cheapest and more easily available craft making material mainly for the DIY lovers. The newspaper is easy to handle, easy to fold and also affordable if it gets spoiled. To make photo frame, wall hanging, flower pot, basket, etc., all you need is the newspaper.
The newspaper is also used by the girls mostly in villages and sub-urban areas as a wrapper to wrap up their used sanitary napkins.
The newspaper also serves as a wrapper of the mistakes of the government as it mostly contains the advertisement and small robbery case incidents not the bigger scams.
The newspaper is also used as a dinning clothes to be spread over the bed for the children who more often spill the food and are toddlers.
For some people, newspaper is still a wrapper of the Chapati which they bring for their lunch in the lunch box, as they still cannot afford the silver foil.
GREETING AND MEETING
The newspaper suddenly becomes a greeting card for big banners, politicians, MLAs and institutions as soon as the festival season arrives. The newspaper suddenly becomes so colorful and appealing on National festivals as it gets all the colors of patriotism.
REALITY
The newspaper is also a mattress for the majority of people in country which sleep in railways' stations, near bus stand, on hospitals' general ward gallery. This function of the newspaper is more disturbing than seeing the newspaper full of advertisement of brands. As in this case, the newspaper is itself a witness of the poverty by being the bedsheet and pillow at the same time.
The newspaper has also been the only bond between those neighbors who make
rumors about each other whole day but they talk so politely when they borrow the newspaper from their neighbor.
CHANGE IN PLACE
Earlier, I have witnessed the newspaper being my only source to know the fun facts about the world but now, the news it contains has also become so funny.
The newspaper was a fame earning platform for budding chefs and poets but now Youtube has replaced this niche of the newspaper.
The newspaper was a travelogue for many state tourism department to advertise their state's beauty and culture but now digital media has taken up that honor from the newspaper.
Thousands of local factories are running only by recycling the old newspaper and making every possible thing out of it.
The newspaper vendors and distributers are struggling for their existence but they are still sustaining the duty of making us aware about the changes occurring around us.
A CURE FOR SURE
For those who are frustrated and drained, the newspaper reading is a better and applicable remedy than the music, as it can make our senses divert from our own problems by making us aware of the bigger global and local problems related to the human race and sometimes about the animals also.
It will not be wrong on my part to say that the government has an invisible but impactful support of the newspaper and what is printed on it.
CONCLUSION
The newspaper is like a mirror of society because it gives a real but an inverted image of society. The laws of diffraction and reflection both works simultaneously here.
I hope from now on you will not treat the newspaper as a mere paper, but as a reputed member of your family.
